What age did you started dancing? I was 8 years old when I started dancing in recreational classes with Miss Heather and then when I was 10 years old I moved to competitive dancing with Miss Karen.
What is the best experience you encounter in your journey of dance? Two of the best experiences I encountered in my journey of dance is when I competed my tap solo (Jumpin Jack) at a dance competition and I placed 1st overall over 30 numbers. I was so surprised because I was just hoping to get top 10 as there were so many other great dances. I felt so proud of myself.

Why confidence is important in Dance? Confidence is important in dance because you are always surrounded by so many amazing dancer, you have to always feel confident in yourself and your ability. Do your best and do it with confidence, poise, and grace.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a dancer? Some advantages of being a dancer is that you learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and diversity. At my studio, there are not allot of black girls on the competition team, so being able to perform a number to show my diversity gives me a chance to educate others. One disadvantage of being a dancer is that you don’t have much time to do thing outside of dance as dance requires allot of time. I miss allot of games at school or I don’t hang out at the mall.
What was being in a dance competition really like? Its very hectic in the dressing room with quick changes but other then that I really love competition and the awards. I also enjoy meeting lots of friends from different studios from all over the country, even some dancers from Instagram!
What advice would you give to young girls that want to start out in dance? Always stay true to yourself and be confident. You are always surrounded by amazing dancers so don’t be so hard on yourself if you don’t do as good as you would like at a competition you always have a chance to do better. And when you do well, be humble and always smile on and off the stage.
What is your ultimate goal? My ultimate goal is to be a principal dancer at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and perform “Cry” like Donna Wood and Judith Jamison. And my goal for this season is to place top 5 in the competitive teen category.
