Dancer of the Week: Jordan Nata’e

Posted on August 7, 2016March 24, 2019 by prettybrowndancers

This week’s Dance of the Week is Jordan Nata’e. She starred on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance Next Generation. Jordan dances as if she begun in her toddler years…but she was ONLY 9 years old!!! Check out her interview where she talked about her hobbies, what she learned since being eliminated the show and why you will never see the last of her.

Name: Jordan Nata’e

Age: 14

Hobbies: Dancing, Drawing, Swimming, Singing, and Hanging out with my friends.

Dance School: Dancer’s Turnout Academy of Dance

Talents: Dancing, Singing, and Drawing

What age did you started dancing?: I started to dance at 9 years old.

Why did you chose to go on So You Think You Can Dance Next Generation: About three years ago, one of my friends and I binged watched So You Think You Can Dance for weeks. I was so addicted and amazed by all of the routines. I said that if they ever let a kid audition I would go for it. So when it happened, there was no way that I could not try. I never thought that I would actually make it on to the show, but if you do not at least try the answer will always be no.

What you think about your experience being on television where millions of viewers are watching world wide: I think that it was absolutely amazing! I got to perform live in front of millions of people every week, doing exactly what I love. I mean, is there anything better?

What did you learn about dancing being partnered with a famous dancer/choreographer and on a tv show: I learned that in order to dance with your partner well you have to know them as not only as a dancer, but as a person as well. Even with the choreographer you have to know their style and what the piece means to them, and if you have questions ask them or you will not get anywhere. In the end you are the one dancing on stage in front of A LOT of people.

How did you feel about being eliminated from the show?: Of course I was upset, but not about being eliminated. I was upset that I had to leave my new friends and family, but I also know that I will see them again especially Sasha (pictured above on the left). But overall I am extremely proud of myself because I did exactly what I was supposed to do and that was to show the world my talent and show who I am. I am grateful for the whole experience.

What are your goals in the next five years?: In the next five years I would love to do Broadway. I love dancing but I also want to act, and I also will be taking singing lessons. I am keeping my options open because there is so many things that I can do, but what I do know is that I want to perform and entertain for the rest of my life…. Oh! And I want to graduate from high school and possibly go to the prom!

Your advice to young girls who are inspired by your dance journey: To all the young girls that are inspired by me I would tell them that Determination is key, Kindness will unlock the door, and if you work hard enough the door will open all you have to do is walk through it.
